I was so proud of my 6yo son when I surprised him by showing up to eat lunch with him at school and he suddenly took my hand, parading me around to introduce me to all of his friends and the teachers. He was so polite about it too, saying, “Excuse me Mrs. —, I’d like you to meet my mom…” Sadly, before that I hadn’t even realized he had manners! That day we were both beaming with pride for each other–he was proud to show me around and I was proud to see he had listened to my coaching on manners. :)

Over the past year we added a new member to our family. Before it was just me and my two kids. Im 28 My daughter is 9 my son 3. I took guardianship over a teenage boy and he has been a handful. The eight grade year was a challenge and just trying to adjust to the change has been very hard for the whole family. Hes been built like a brick wall in the wrong direction and My kids aren’t used to dividing my attention like that. Despite the full time day job and the full time mommy job and the stress in between along with the extended meetings and office calls for my teenager….we were working on one goal for him….graduation. And when it was all said and done and I met him outside the auditorium he grabbed me and hugged me so tight and said “thank you…this makes me want more…now i know family…now I know what it means to want more out of education! and Can I have $20.00?” it made me feel appreiciated and reminds me that these are all my children they only have me and It makes it all worth the fight to keep a family together even tho its not perfect, every family is worth the fight to be a family! :)

My son has been a single father since Ryker was 6 months old and doing a wonderful job. My grandson is almost 3 and spend a lot of time w/me so even though I am not his mom, my daughter and I do all the things in place of what his mother would do and we do with a happy heart.

    My son’s compliment to me:

    Cameron Brown
My mom & I have our differences… But she is the best grandma to my son anyone could ask for.

My five year old daughter has been involved in many activities since she the age of three. It just so happen that this year I thought that her t-ball pictures were going to fall on the day of her ballet recital. I felt really stress and bad for her. Her reply was, “its alright mommy I didn’t need t-ball pictures anyways” hearing that made realize how mature she is for her age (5). I also think that she could sense my stress and tried to make me feel better. On top of all that she graduated from kindergarten. :-)

All in one day last week I had my 6 yr old graduate Kindergarten, my daughter move from Elementary School to Middle School on the principles list and honor roll, my son graduate Middle School, and my oldest got his first pay check and instead of blowing it all on himself he too his whole family out to a nice dinner so I wouldn’t have to cook that night. I was such a proud mama that day I bragged to everyone in person, on my personal Facebook page and my business Facebook page :) They all do something at least once a week that makes me beam with pride.

Of all the things I tell my two sons, the thing I want them to hold onto the tightest is to love and respect each other. Below is a dialogue I overhead the other day between the two:

Older Brother: I think Mom is right; friends will come and go but we’ll always have each other.

Younger Brother: Yeah. I love you, Ethan.

Older Brother: I love you, too. I’m glad you’re my brother.

Younger Brother: I broke your Lego Ship.

Older Brother: I knew it! I knew it!

(Mom clears her throat in the background)

Older Brother: Fine. I forgive you.

Younger Brother: That’s why your da bestest brudder ever.

I hope they can always remain friends. :)

My son was 6 years old and going to the babysitters so mom could work. At this babysitter’s home was a beautiful little girl named Cherie. She had down syndrome. While all the other kids would play with each other, my son went over to Cherie and started talking to her and giving her big hugs. He asked me later why she talked and looked that way and I replied because God made her special for this world. Also she had no mommy, just a daddy because her Mommy was with God (cancer) and Cherie probably needed extra love. Not a day would go by my babysitter wouldnt tell me how Cherie would run to Cody whenever she saw him and just hug on him and love on him, and each time he would do the same and they would play together all day for the next 2 years. My daughter is 22 months old and I hope she has just as beautiful of a heart to love those who you may not understand.

When my barely two year old daughter started reading the letters off the welcome mat, we had just started to do alphabet flash cards and i was amazed at how fast she picked them up.

Last winter, I was cleaning out my daughter’s closet of clothes that she had outgrown and toys she doesn’t play with. Usually I try to do this when she’s not home so that there are no tears about getting rid of toys. She came home early while I was sorting her toys to donate. Instead of getting upset, she volunteered additional stuff that I was going to keep. She said, “I have lots of stuff. Give them to kids that don’t have anything.” I was very proud of her. She’s only 6.

We make it a point to teach our kids to help others. We have fed people and my husband and son befriended a disabled vet named Tony that they went out to feed one day. During our evening prayers as we were closing, our 4 year old said, “Dad! You need to pray for Tony!” I’m not sure that I was beaming with pride, but I was certainly pleased that my son is asking G-d to help others and not just himself.
