Tip Tuesday: Freeze Your Own Spinach

Spinach is so good for us, but it seems like every time I buy a bag I only eat about half of it and the other half ends up in the trash. Not anymore! Now I chop it up in my blender or food processor and freeze it into cubes!

Once you have all your spinach chopped, put in ice cube trays, make sure you pack it down firmly and freeze. I use BPA FREE ice cube trays, that way you don’t get any nasty chemicals in your food. I bought mine at Babies R Us for around $10 for a 2pk.

Once you’ve allowed your spinach to freeze place the bottom end in a shallow bowl of hot water, I just plug my sink and add some hot water. This will help lift your spinach cubes from the tray and you’ll be able to get them out much easier. Now just label a freezer bag and put those nutritious cubes in your bag and freeze.

For dinner when you’re making a sauce or whatever just pop in a few spinach cubes to add an extra boost of nutrition, or add a cube or 2 to your morning smoothie!
