About

Head to any event, restaurant or store and you see them everywhere. They can be glowing, frazzled, hurried or relaxed. They’re talking on phones, talking to co-workers or talking to kids. They’re moms, and they’re everywhere.

There are 168,975 women in the Bakersfield area, and 93,174 of them are ages 18-59 with children younger than 17 in their households. That’s a lot of parenting going on in Kern County.

Welcome to BakersfieldMom.com — a place where Bakersfield-area moms can connect and share experiences about being a mom and a woman.

We’ve got a small group of dedicated bloggers to write about issues surrounding raising kids in Kern County. Health, nutrition, saving money and the fun and funny things our kids do and say that make us happy to be moms.

We’ve got an already-growing Facebook page (Facebook.com/BakersfieldMom) where we’re posting deals, article links and asking for your thoughts on everything from medical issues to best kid-friendly treats.

If you have a question and want feedback from other moms, post a comment on the blog or shoot us a note on Facebook. We’ve already helped one local mom find a reading tutor for her kids.

Are you a working mom or stay-at home mom? Have you figured out how to get your kids to do their homework without arguing? Are you dealing with a teenager heading off to college or — gulp — learning to drive? Are you a grandmother looking at raising kids from a different perspective now? Do you want to join our team of bloggers? We’d love to talk to you! Send an email to jbutow@bakersfield.com.

Don’t forget that this site is a work in progress. If there are features you like or dislike, let us know. We value your opinions because, after all, this site is all about moms.
